As part of the awesome Classroom Champions program, we create a video each month on a chosen topic to send to our athlete, freestyle skier, Emily Cook. She challenged us to share what our thoughts about Fair Play. The kids love thinking up their personal mantras and role playing a few to illustrate the meaning. My Twitter PLN

Twitter has changed my teaching. I could never have imagined the professional inspiration I would find on a social network. What I have found has changed my views on Twitter as a professional tool. It has helped my find many collaborators and friends with whom I can shared countless thoughts and ideas. I have used it as a support system, idea springboard, information fountain, and platform for sharing. It's like finding a hidden oasis. It's out there for everyone to find and use, only not many folks give it a second thought. I'm so glad I did. I look forward to #4thchat on Monday nights and login every week without fail to connect and share with fabulous educators from around the world. We share thoughts and ideas, inspire each other, swap lessons, encourage and hope for each other. In short, we suppport each other. No matter what your job or interest, you can use Twitter to connect with others. I discovered this amazing resource and will never look back. Cheers, @JennRegruth ***Any time, any place, learn!*** ;)

Our fun Mystery Skype with Ms. Naugle's class!

All the way from New Orleans, Louisiana! We enjoyed asking yes/no questions back and forth to figure out the locations.  We were amazed to hear that their school day is extended by a half hour every day from October to April to make up time there were off because of Hurricane Isaac!

Let's Skype already!

After Day One, when we called Mrs. Naugle's class to practice Skype etiquette, they returned the favor on Day Two! Each student gave their first name and told what makes them unique. The students LOVED it.  I really enjoyed seeing them perk up and get excited about sharing.

Math Fun!

The kids had a ball with this math product game!  It is cheap and easy to make!  Students take turns selecting a card and then placing the card in the correct spot, in the row with the correct color.  They worked together to decide where the mulitple should go.  Hopefully, they reinforced their knowledge of their multiplication facts as well.

High Flyin' science experiment!  The 4th grade classes constructed their own kites and took them outside for a  trial run!  We had such fun working in groups to construct the kites and then collaborating on ways to get them airborne.  Soaking up some fresh air sure helped morale, the kites weren't successful fliers, but students did gain some knowledge on what to do next time.

Love the GoogleDocs-

The fabulous students of Room 18 collaborated with partners to create a Google Presentation on the Immune System of the Body.  The rubric allowed for a wide variety of presentation details.  They projects turned out wonderfully!
Students have computer knowledge to research, create content, create new slides, insert images and photos and resize them, make background themes, spell check and most important do real time collaboration from across the room!  Google Docs allows students to share documents with each other and work on them AT THE SAME TIME.
While one is typing, another cursor shows up where the partner is updating content in real time.  In a side chat window, students can comment on changes that need to be made or compliment each other on content being added.  Many times students will set a time to work on these projects at home, since all they need is their login to access them.  We printed slides of Google Presentations to hang in the hall and show other students!
Stop in sometime and ask any member of Room 18 about it.  They would be happy to talk to you!

We LOVE Mystery Skype!

Room 18 has been participating in Mystery Skype with other classrooms around the United States and even AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND!  It has really been great fun.
We found out about the project through Google Docs and signed up to participate.  We then brainstormed a list of questions to be answered Yes or No by the Mystery callers.
When the call is placed through Skype, each class has a student ask a question, the other classroom answers, while classmates try to narrow down their location on maps, in books, and on Google Maps on the computer. Some students are taking notes and formulating new questions as the call progresses.
We have met some really fabulous folks along the way!  We have connected with classrooms from New Jersey, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, and the country of New Zealand!  How cool is that?!
Our classroom has had a ball and has more classrooms lined up for more!

Sonya's amazing talent!

Can you guess what Sonya's incredible secret talent is? By the looks of this sweet gal, I am sure you would never guess she is a black belt in karate and often takes home the 1st place trophy in competitions- even when competing against boys! She brought in the trophies she recently won at a competition in Chicago and got to share some great stories with the class! Great job, Sonya!
